Today we decided to visit Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks. We first went to the base visitor center to get approval to enter the base. After, three quarters of an hour we were finally checked out and approved to enter the base.
This Army base is large, completely self sufficient, with an airfield, ski area and a golf course (the best I have seen in Alaska). It would appear they are capable of housing all those assigned to the base in very clean and neat facilities.
It would appear the Army provides excellent facilities for those people assigned here (I wonder if they get a winter clothing allowance?).
